Japan’s plan to release radioactive water from Fukushima nuclear plant into sea sparks outrage

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced the decision on April 13, 2021, after having assessed there will be no negative impact on human health or the environment. The move came 10 years after a massive earthquake and tsunami triggered a triple meltdown at the plant in March 2011. The decision to release water from the plant has drawn protests from local fishermen and raised concerns from neighbouring countries. Fukushima: The nuclear disaster that shook the world - BBC News

On March 11th 2011, Japan's most powerful earthquake on record triggered a tsunami, which then caused a meltdown at a nuclear power plant. It wiped entire towns off the map and forced Fukushima’s residents from their homes as radiation leaked from the plant. The government estimates the disaster could cost nearly $200bn, and the clean-up may take until 2051. Today the prefecture of Fukushima is still dealing with the aftermath of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. What happened that day, and what was it like for the people who lived through it? The BBC’s Tui McLean explains how the triple disaster unfolded. Please subscribe HERE http://bit.ly/1rbfUog #BBCNews #Fukushima #Japan

What's the future of the Astrazeneca vaccine? | Inside Story

A growing number of European countries are suspending the Oxford-Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccine. There are concerns the jab may have caused some recipients to develop blood clots. But health agencies say there is no evidence such conditions are linked to the vaccine. And they insist the benefits outweigh any potential risk. This comes as Europe is already short on vaccine supplies and struggling to contain a surge in new infections. The European Medicines regulator and the World Health Organization are now investigating the possible side effects. But as new cases surge - how will this affect Euorpe's vaccination rollout?
